Counselling and Psychotherapy

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom.”

- Lao Tzu

I am an accredited psychotherapist based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. I specialise in working with people in high-pressure roles such as healthcare and the caring professions, and with people navigating serious illness, chronic illness, bereavement, and major life transitions.

Life’s pressures can take many forms. For some, it’s the exhaustion of relentless work demands or the strain of always being the one others rely on. For others, it is the impact of a diagnosis, the weight of grief, or the challenge of finding yourself again after something has fundamentally changed.

When the world around you seems to expect strength and composure, admitting that you are struggling can feel impossible. Many describe pushing themselves to just keep going until something finally gives.

Therapy offers a pause from these pressures. It is a private space where you do not have to hold everything together, a place to speak openly, be really listened to, and begin to restore balance and perspective.

People come to therapy with me to:

  • step back from the relentless work pressures and recover from burnout or chronic overwhelm
  • process grief, bereavement or loss connected to illness or significant change
  • adjust to a serious or chronic illness, and the way it reshapes life and identity
  • clarify priorities, strengthen boundaries, and reconnect with a sense of purpose or what matters most.

There is no fixed formula. Some people come for a short time to make sense of a crisis; others value the steadiness of longer-term support.

How I work

I offer in-person appointments in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Online appointments may also be available. Our first meeting is a confidential space to explore what brings you to therapy, your hopes, and any concerns. Together, we determine if we are a good fit and discuss the focus, pace, and duration of your therapy.

My approach is primarily psychodynamic, helping you understand patterns in thoughts, feelings, and relationships that affect your current wellbeing. I also draw on group analytic, existential, and CBT frameworks where useful, tailoring therapy to your needs.

I have worked extensively in healthcare and specialist support settings, including leading Hospice Family Support Services, supporting clinical staff during COVID-19, working in cancer care and running Employee Assistance Programmes. I have also worked with the mental health charity MIND. I am currently undertaking advanced studies in Group Analytic Psychotherapy at UCD.

I have over 30 years of experience in coaching and leadership development, which informs my work with senior professionals navigating responsibility, complex dynamics, and high-stakes environments.

I am registered with VHI, Laya Healthcare, and Irish Life Health. If you hold health insurance, you may be able to claim a contribution towards the cost of your sessions. Check your policy or contact me to find out more.
